KALAMAZOO (MICH.)-More than 50 works of art have been submitted for inclusion in Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s second annual Alumni+ Art Show which opens during Art Hop on March 1. Submissions to the juried show came from Kalamazoo Valley students who have graduated or taken classes in any field at the college. The show opens with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. announcement of a $500 Best of Show Award, a $300 People’s Choice Award, and a $300 Director’s Award.
The Alumni + Art show will remain on exhibit in the Center for New Media until the end of March.
The event is sponsored by the college’s Alumni+ program, which was launched in 2010 as a way for graduates, former students, and supporters of Kalamazoo Valley to stay connected to the college and each other.
This year’s show is larger than last year’s inaugural event and organizers are pleased with the interest from alumni. “We had wonderful turnout last year,” said Steve Doherty, Director of Development for Kalamazoo Valley. “We’re anticipating good numbers again, especially since the Art Show opening coincides with Art Hop and the Play-In Contest at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum for the Fretboard Festival. We’re happy to be adding to the excitement of everything that’s going on at the Arcadia Commons Campus in downtown Kalamazoo.”
