KALAMAZOO (MICH.)-When a slave takes his chances of escape, he gets more than he bargains for. As he is hunted down by slave catchers, he realizes he is running for his life.

Local author Alice Renee has penned the dramatic thriller, Recollections of a Fugitive, as the first in her Walker’s Web series. A book release event will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 22 at the Kalamazoo Public Library, 315 Rose St. in downtown Kalamazoo. The event will include a dramatic performance of excerpts from the book by local theater artists.

The characters of the series are based on ones introduced in her debut novel, Blood, published in 2005.

This event is free and no reservations are required. For more information, call 269-342-9837. Collaborators of this event include: Magical Rain Theaterworks, the Black Arts and Cultural Center, Fotwoc, the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, and the Kalamazoo Public Library.
