Celebrities face local leaders during softball fundraiser

KALAMAZOO (Mich.)-Kalamazoo Kings may have a new talent pool of players after seeing some local celebrities take to the field of Mayor’s Riverfront Park for fun and fundraising.

The 2010 Kalamazoo’s Finest 2010 Celebrity Softball Game will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Mayor’s Riverfront Park and will feature local stars such as Greg Jennings of the Green Bay Packers, Chris Crawford of the Atlanta Hawks, T.J. Duckett of the Seattle Seahawks and others. They will compete with or against those such as Mayor Bobby Hopewell, Andy Pepper of WWMT, and Michael Rice, superintendent of Kalamazoo Public Schools and members of area public safety, and city and county representatives from various agencies. In conjunction with “Safe Summer 2010,” this event will include a mascot game, a kickball game featuring Class A State Champion Portage Central Girls Soccer team against the Class A State Champion Kalamazoo Central Boys Basketball team.

A silent auction also will be part of the events according the O’Neal Ollie, program coordinator of the Douglass Community Association.

Proceeds from the event will fund in-house programs and activities at the Douglass, as well as cultural activities, Home Rehab repair for senior citizens and family counseling services. The event also will feature a resource fair with display booths from area youth-serving agencies.
