KALAMAZOO (MICH)- As organizations, businesses and schools across the nation prepare to honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., comedians will do their share by kicking off the week of serious events with laughter.
On Sunday, Jan. 16, Host Comedian Damon Williams will share the stage with nationally-known comedians such as Jay Deep and others. The event will be held at The Globe Theatre, 241 E. Kalamazoo Ave., in Kalamazoo. Cost is $15 for general admission and $20 for VIP admission and buffet. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show.
Jay Deep has become a favorite performer throughout the Midwest and abroad after bursting onto the Chicago comedy scene in 1994. According to his website: www.jaydeep.net he has performed nationally in cities which include Las Vegas, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Detroit, St. Louis and Miami; as well as internationally in Amsterdam, Belgium, Rotterdam, London, Montreal and Toronto just to name a few.
He effortlessly adapts to his audience as he blends his comic timing with audience participation. His success in stand-up brought Hollywood knocking, landing him cameo appearances in MGM Pictures Barbershop and Barbershop 2, Paramount’s Light It Up, eight seasons of BET’s ComicView (including a half-hour special) as well as performing on HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy. In addition to performing in front of the camera, he is also expanding his talents off camera as a short film writer/director.
Jay currently resides in Chicago and believes, “Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person we become. At the end of each day you should play back the tapes of your performances. The results should either applaud you or prod you.”
Damon Williams, a native of Chicago, has been been featured in various national touring shows as well as his own comedy headlining acts. He has hosted Kalamazoo’s Funny First Sundays since 2010. Williams handpicks the comedians he brings to Kalamazoo, always wanting to bring in a diverse collection of comedians.
