KALAMAZOO (MICH.)- The Kalamazoo Jaycees invite you to attend “From Castles to Highlands: An Evening of Scottish Culture and
History” at the Kalamazoo Public Library Van Deusen Room. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 29th from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
“From Castles to Highlands is a unique opportunity for the public to learn about Scottish culture,” describes event chairperson, Michelle
Lorimer. “With the wealth of local organizations involved, this event really has something that will pique the interests of anyone. We are
hoping to showcase the beauty of Scotland and bring a little piece of the country alive for all attendees.”
“From Castles to Highlands” is a new event celebrating Scotland’s culture, history, entertainment and food. It will feature music and bagpipes courtesy of the Kalamazoo Pipe Band, stories about Scotland’s castles, history and traditions from Ian Warnock of the Grand Rapids Scottish Society, and pictures from Scottish travels. Other scheduled attractions include the organizers of the Kalamazoo Scottish Festival, Scottish trivia, a book list, and information about local resources.
“The Kalamazoo Jaycees provide unique opportunities for its members to learn about other cultures and develop as individuals,” states Jason
Bocade, the 2011 President of the Kalamazoo Jaycees. “Having been part of the Kalamazoo community since 1932, we embrace every opportunity we can to share these experiences with the community as a whole.”
The Kalamazoo Jaycees is an organization for young men and women between the ages of 21-40 that provides its members with opportunities
to meet new people, develop personal and professional skills, and enrich their community through service. The Kalamazoo Jaycees sponsor the Taste of Kalamazoo and Island Fest summer festivals and organize community events, such as the Ghosts of Kalamazoo haunted tours, the “Say Hello to Fall!” Family Festival, and the City of Kalamazoo Egg Hunt at the River Walk.
