Daniel Fast Taking Christians By Storm

As the new year rolled in, many people I knew were bringing it in with their mind focused on God. While New Year’s Resolutions are popular, some feel fasting and praying to discover the purpose and plan for your life is a key to peace and success. With that, Christian churches took on the popular Daniel Fast approach to former fasting and prayer methods.

In the past, many Christians believed fasting from all foods and consuming water for a designated period, allowed them to commune with God on a more spiritual level. Today, a healthy and biblical method of the Daniel Fast has become popular around the world.

In the bible, Daniel chapter one shares how the prophet went on a fast  eating only vegetables and fruits and drank only water. In Daniel chapter 10, the prophet refrained from meat, breads, foods and wine for 21 days. Jewish fasting also includes refraining from leaven bread; therefore prohibiting anything made with yeast, baking powder and other similar items.  In addition, today’s Daniel Fast forbids foods with artificial ingredients; are processed or contain any chemicals.

This fast not only is good for the body, but for the spirit and the soul. Those with health issues such as diabetes, pregnancy, or other issues should contact a physician before undertaking this fast, especially if it last throughout the 21 days typically suggested.
