April 29 is THE DAY OF THE CHILD

KALAMAZOO (MICH)-At 8:30 a.m. on Friday April 29, several area ministers joined in prayer at St. Joseph Church on Lake Street in Kalamazoo for the children of our communities during the annual Day of the Child.

During the day various schools and organizations across celebrate the importance of celebrating children. Those who spoke at the morning event included Dr. Stephen Blabdelis, Juan Muniz, the Revs. Denise Posey of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, Richmond Tyson of The Bible Church, and Msg. Mike hazard, pastor of St. Joesph Catholic Church. Prayer was provided by Jan Baker of Immanuel Christian Reform Church and music was performed by Geary North along with Adam Sterenberg, principal of the Tree of Life School. Students of Tree of Life also performed the songs, “Jesus Loves Me,” and “He’s Got the Whole World.”

The Day of the Child is celebrated across the world and since 1925, Día del niño, or the Day of the Child, has grown as an annual celebration which recognizes children, pays homage to their importance in society, and endorses their well being.

Other event to celebrate the day locally include:

Edison Elementary will show a history video and art projects. El Sol Elementary will have special speakers, book distribution and children’s activities.
A Health Walk at 4 p.m. from El Sol to Maple Street Middle School. Maple will host with a variety of festivities for all ages, while the Maple Street YMCA also provides fun things to do.
Shuttle Service will be available from the Edison neighborhood to YMCA , courtesy of International Media Exchange. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
