KALAMAZOO (MICH.)- Harvey Hollins III, a 1987 graduate of Kalamazoo College presented the keynote address during the annual ISSAC dinner held on March 23 at Western Michigan University. Hollins was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to establish to Office of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives in Michigan. The purpose of the office is to help “restore the economic vitality,” of the state.

Hollins presented an address to the guests which emphasized the possibilities of a state which can offer economic stability to its residents. The graduate of Otsego High School has worked in politics as a government affairs representative with AARP (1996-2004), and as vice president of Government Affairs at Wayne State University.

Various other community members were recognized for their contributions to the community. Dr. Charles Warfield was presented with the Leader of the Year award. The event also featured performances by area youth, and inspiring words of encouragement by those making a difference in the community.

ISSAC is a an interfaith organizing network of congregations and strategic partners working together to build a more just community.

Community Voices was founded in 2005 by James and Arlene Washington in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The weekly print publication provided a unique opportunity to inform the multicultural community of news important to them. In addition, it provided an affordable advertising source for small businesses in the community.
