Funny First Sunday brings in new acts

Leon Roger, comedian and talk show host.

KALAMAZOO (MICH)-It’s that time again—time to laugh. This month’s Funny First Sunday event at The Globe Theatre will feature comedians Leon Rogers and Kool Bubba Ice. Comedian Damon Williams will host the event which promises to help bring in the month of December with holiday cheer. The show will be held at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7:30 p.m.) Sunday, Dec. 5 at The Globe located at 241 E. Kalamazoo Ave. (under Shakespeare’s Pub).

Rogers, a native of Chicago, won first place in the 2001 MGD Comedy search and has appeared on BET’s Comicview. Known as “The Destined Legend,” Rogers has toured internationally with P. Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy, Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza, Cedric the Entertainer’s Starting Lineup, and Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes. He also has been featured in the movie, Barbershop and in movie videos. The Morning Riot on 107.5 WGCI in Chicago.

Kool Bubba Ice, comedian and actor.

Kool Bubba Ice, born Roger McCobb, is a native of  Newark, New Jersey.  He has appeared on many television shows including “The Apollo Comedy Hour” in which he was a cast member, Hardcore TV on HBO, The Richard Bey Show, Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam, and BET Comic View. He has also appeared in the films “Rising to the Top” and “Comedy in the Hood.”

He has opened for Chris Rock, Chris Tucker, Paul Mooney, Bernie Mac, Bill Belllamy, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Kelly Price, Dave Hollister, Jaheim, and Keith Washington. His club performances include The Comedy Store, Laugh Factory, and the Improv(s) in Los Angeles, Miami and New York, Uptown Comedy Club, the Boston Comedy Club, Comic Strip, Stand-up New York, The Comedy Connection in Greenbelt, Maryland and The Laugh House in Philadelphia, PA and the Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta, GA.

Seasoned comic Damon Williams is the mentor for many upcoming comedians and hand picks each comic who appears at Funny First Sundays. Williams too has appeared in movies and has toured the globe making people laugh.
