Professor Michael Reisch is Daniel Thursz Distinguished Professor of Social Justice, University of Maryland, one of the leading and most respected social work educators and researchers in the U.S. Professor Reisch has played a leadership role in national and state advocacy, professional, and social change organizations that focused on the needs of low-income children and families, welfare recipients, and unemployed or homeless persons.

He is the author or editor of over 20 books and monographs, over 100 articles and book chapters, and over 250 papers at state, national, and international conferences on the history and philosophy of social welfare, the meaning and application of social justice and multiculturalism, radical social work, community organization theory and practice, the nonprofit sector, and contemporary policy issues, particularly welfare reform and the impact of globalization on the future of the welfare state.

He has directed or consulted on political campaigns at the federal, state, and local levels in four states and been honored for his work by the Maryland General Assembly, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and numerous local and national nonprofit organizations, professional associations and universities. He is currently working on several forthcoming books, including Social Policy and Social Justice in the U.S.; Doing Justice: Working for Change in a Changing World; From Melting Pot to Multiculturalism: An Alternative History of U.S. Social Welfare; The Handbook of Social Justice; and the Handbook of Community Practice.

Community Voices was founded in 2005 by James and Arlene Washington in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The weekly print publication provided a unique opportunity to inform the multicultural community of news important to them. In addition, it provided an affordable advertising source for small businesses in the community.
