Volunteer Center gets new look, new name

Volunteer Kalamazoo helps gather hundreds of volunteers for area organizations.

KALAMAZOO (MICH.)-Since 1980 the Volunteer Center of Kalamazoo has provided volunteer opportunities to hundreds of youth and adults who want to give back to their community. On Sept. 1, the organization launched a new look to match its new name- Volunteer Kalamazoo.

Of those who attended the event, many raved about the branding. Those from the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek to the local Beacon Club, attended the unveiling of the new logo.

According to Volunteer Kalamazoo’s website http://volunteerkalamazoo.org/kava/ the organization was first formed as the Kalamazoo Association of Volunteer Administrators (KAVA) to exchange of information and to promote networking between non-profit professionals working with volunteers. Today the organization offers training for non-profit leaders, an annual Star Award recognition event co-hosted by the Kalamazoo Gazette, an annual golf outing and Grape Expectation fund raising efforts.

The mission of KAVA is to shape the future of volunteerism by shaping, strengthening and promoting the profession of volunteer management. The purpose of KAVA is to provide an opportunity to share professional skills through training and information sharing, to promote volunteer leadership and administration as a profession, to support members in skill development, and to enable members to keep abreast of and have impact on legislative issues affecting volunteerism.

Community Voices was founded in 2005 by James and Arlene Washington in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The weekly print publication provided a unique opportunity to inform the multicultural community of news important to them. In addition, it provided an affordable advertising source for small businesses in the community.
