Area Author has Debut Novel Produced as Stage Production

 SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN-Playwright and director Buddy Hannah will hold open auditions for his new play, Reverend Hype: The Stage Play. The play is based on a book the book, Reverend Hype, by Raymond Ryan.

Auditions will be held from 6:30-8 p.m.  Sept. 7th and 8th at Allen Chapel AME Church, 804 W. North Street in Kalamazoo, MI.

Play Synopsis

Pastor Leon Howard Jr. was not prepared for what he inherited as the pastor of his father’s struggling church. Pastor Howard is faced with an aging congregation, a need for younger tithing members and the possibility of losing the church and the land it sits on. When Pastor Howard sees how many of the pastors of the so called mega churches have taken God’s Word and is using it for personal gains, riches and fame he starts to wonder if his father’s down-home religion is enough. When he begins to conform to the ways of the world to keep up with the “hype”, lives and souls are devastated.

 Cast Needs

6 African American males ages, mid-forties to early sixties,

1 White Male age, late fifties to late sixties,

1 African American female age early-thirties to late forties,

3 dancers, age Mid-twenties to early fifties, (Dancers must be experienced in modern and hip hop dance. Dancers will be required to dance. Please bring your own music).

Actors will be provided with a script to read. All other information will be provided at the auditions.
