KALAMAZOO (MICH.)- Rita Bowman has served diligently in many church ministries for more than 40 years. While the retired educator attempted to do her best to council and work with those in the church needing services, she realized she had to do more. Her desire was to not only help Christians and non-Christians understand their purpose on earth, but to also prepare them for what comes after death. It was that God-given desire that led to her writing her debut study guide, Absent From the Body: What Happens After Death?

“There is no greater calling than to purposely live your life in preparation of the second coming of our Lord Jesus,” said Bowman, a resident of Kalamazoo. “Many Christians don’t know how to plan for His return and with this in mind, it is my genuine hope and prayer that the content of this book will enlighten others about the critical significance of making the best, conscientious decision of their life by choosing where their soul and spirit will go one it become absent from the body.”

Bowman said the Bible does more to inform people on what happens after death than many realize. She delves into the various aspects of hell (Sheol, Bottomless Pit, Lake of Fire) to explain through the scriptures just what each “place” means. The beautifully designed guide book also shares the Biblical aspects of heaven and what it contains for those who will enter its gates. In addition to being an informative study guide, Absent From the Body also provides thought-provoking questions which can be used in group study formats.

In 1978 Bowman joined the ministry and more than 25 years later, felt the calling to do more to share the Word of God through evangelism and writing. She has since written several books, articles and manuals for use in the church. Her debut publication, Receive Jesus and the Holy Ghost, was published in collaboration with Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

“On a daily basis I journal what the Lord says to me in prayer and meditation,” Bowman said. “The Lord has blessed me to (be able to) commit full time to Kingdom work and “standing in the gap,” to birth sons and daughters of Zion.”
